Birmingham Trades Council has organised a public meeting to discuss budget and the implications it could have for working people and our communities in Birmingham.

A range of speakers are invited to speak and anticipate what the Chancellor is likely to announce on the 3rd of March 2021.

The speakers include:

Mary-Ann Stephenson, Director of the Women’s Budget Group Mary-Ann has worked for women’s equality and human rights for over twenty years as a campaigner, researcher and trainer. She was previously Director of the Fawcett Society and a Commissioner on the Women’s National Commission. She is a founder member of Coventry Women’s Voices and a board member at Coventry Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre. She has a PhD in Law from the University of Warwick.

Howard Beckett Unite Assist. General Secretary for Politics & Legal. Howard is well known in Trade Union circles and particularly in the Midlands having led key struggles to preserve his members jobs and their earnings.

Michael Roberts Economist. He has worked in the City of London as an economist for over 40 years. He has closely observed the machinations of the global capitalism from within the dragon’s den. Since retiring, he has written several books. The Great Recession – a n Crisis (2018). He has published numerous papers in various academic economic journals and articles in leftist publications.
